古風な群像劇
おそらく作者の自伝的内容を含むのだろうから、60年安保のあと、製薬会社を舞台に、作者本人であろう土井芹子、小庭百合子、大門梅子、板垣蕗代、枝折戸葵といった22から26くらいの娘たちが、苦悩しつつ生きていくさまを描いて、後半はそれから十年くらいあとになっている。結婚した者しない者、百合子は脳の手術をし、芹子は印刷会社社長と結婚して自費出版するが、父親から名誉毀損で訴えると怒られる。これが作者の実体験なのだろう。1984年12月『海燕』掲載で、刊行は86年1月。野間文芸新人賞受賞である。古風で、作者が早く死んだこともあってものがなしい。
