Ikebukuro West Gate Park
2000 TV dramaBased on the novel by Ishida Ira, a TV drama set in Ikebukuro portraying youth, friendship, crime and urban life. Kankuro Kudo's screenplay became his breakout work, achieving high ratings.
Amachan
2013 NHK Asadora (serial TV novel)A serial TV novel set between a coastal town in Tohoku and Tokyo, following a girl who dreams of becoming an ama (female diver) and her coming-of-age. The series explored regional culture and idol culture, spawning popular catchphrases.
