- Married fellow novelist Rio Shimamoto in 2006; after a divorce they remarried in 2010.
- Referred to as the 'terrifying nineteen' because he submitted and won the Mephisto Prize at 19.
- In 2012 he sold a commissioned novella via Gumroad for $1,000 (limited to 12 copies; each purchaser received a different ending).
- DENDERA was adapted into a film in 2011, starring Ruriko Asaoka.
