Tomiyama Seikin is the second-generation iemoto of the koto music tradition. He has received the Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival Award, the Japan Art Academy Prize, and the Medal with Purple Ribbon, and was designated as a Living National Treasure holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property. He serves as a lecturer in Japanese music at Ochanomizu University.
