Description
The Natsume Soseki Award was a Japanese open-recruitment literary prize for newcomers, established in 1946 by Sakuragiku Shoin to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Natsume Soseki's death and the publication of his collected works. It was held twice: the 1st in 1947 (winner: Watanabe Goro, "Novarsa no Kajuen") and the 2nd in 1950 (winner: Saito Yoshiki, "Ame Furu Kotojima"). The prize was then discontinued. In February 1968, Kawade Shobo planned to revive the award as the "Second Natsume Soseki Award" with Kawabata Yasunari and other prominent figures as advisors, but the plan was abandoned when the publisher went bankrupt.
