The Izumi Kyoka Literary Award was established in 1973 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Izumi Kyoka's birth and is sponsored by the City of Kanazawa. It honors works rich in romantic sentiment among single-volume publications such as novels and plays that were published in the previous year, with August 1 as the base date.
